The art of making Portuguese tiles has been a product of years of combining the country’s own style with the influences of foreign colonizers. It can be seen that their position under the different conquerors has indeed caused them a piece of their culture which has helped them garner international prestige.
Tiles are materials which have affected architecture for years. Apart from using these indoors, the Portuguese employ these for structures such as churches, buildings and sidewalks. Often referred to as ‘azulejos,’ these pieces of art are found around the country. Nonetheless, one will wonder what sets these apart from others.
